Snohomish County completed construction
of a new jail in March 2005. The new corrections facility is located
in downtown Everett, Washington with a capacity to house 1040 offenders.
This building is part of a larger Campus Redevelopment Initiative
for the entire city administration. The jail needed to participate
with other architectural features in the City Admin complex. Wood
ceilings were part of this motif.
An off module (extra wide) 1" x 1 3/8" 7 member Grille
was the selected wood ceiling style. It permitted acoustic treatment
using fiberglass batts, having an effective 41% opening through
the Grille ceiling. It also provided a "natural" material,
to counterbalance much of the clinical, even harsh reality of a
corrections facility.
