Starting with 9Wood: The Submittal Process

Apr 28, 2021 Category: Construction Documents (CD), Installation, PricingTag: Videos

About Ben Pottorf

Ben joined the 9Wood team a few short months after Minecraft was released to the public. He still plays to this day. Oh, and he is the Scheduling Manager of our production facility here in Springfield.

Subcontractors often ask: How do we start with 9Wood? In this video, we walk through the steps of starting with 9Wood once you have been awarded a wood ceiling job. Starting the submittal process begins with your support team as we pair you with a dedicated project management team.

Once I’m Awarded a Job, What Happens Next?

The first person you want to call after you’ve been awarded a project would be either the independent sales rep or the Project Leader, or in projects with our house territories, the Sales Executives. They at that point will then hand you over to the Project Management team to pick up the ball from there.

Who is on Your Project Management Team?

The project management team consists of a project manager and a project coordinator. The project manager is going to be your point of contact for technical information. Project Managers are going to handle the shop drawing process, the sample process, as well as generate the contract. In 9Wood terms, this is the fabrication release agreement (FRA).

What Do the Project Coordinators Do?

The Project Coordinators here at 9Wood are going to focus more on the administrative side of your project. Project Coordinators are going to do general follow-ups as well as handle any shipping information, payment information, and any LEED information requests.

What Should You Expect During the First Call?

During that first phone call, typically I’m just going to have a handful of questions for you. Is there a custom color? Can a color control be provided? Are CADs available so that we can start the shop drawing process?

I’m also going to be providing some general information about the lead times for each of those deliverables as well as the lead time for production once we have approvals. My biggest question for customers during that phone call, however, is going to be when is material anticipated to be needed onsite?

How Does 9Wood Start Submittals?

The next thing that happens is I’m going to start putting together the submittals for you. Submittal packets will go out the very next day. Typically, samples are going to take about 2 weeks from the receipt of the color control, and shop drawings will take about 4 weeks from the receipt of CAD files and any RFIs.

What if You Need More Help?

No matter what questions or challenges you might face throughout your project, the project management team here at 9Wood is here to help answer any questions you might have.

If you have a project that you’re looking to move from sales into submittal, please contact your local sales rep, the Project Leader, or the Sales Executive whom you’ve been working with.
